When developing new materials, sometimes you have to look outside your own human perspective. The natural world has been solving problems for billions of years, and often nature's way is the most efficient way.
It’s a sticky subject, but this gecko may play a surprising part in #Ford’s future. https://t.co/iPM13bamck pic.twitter.com/r6pPli9BNh

Using nature as inspiration in a design is called biomimicry. Biomimicry has been used to invent or improve countless well-known products. The Bullet Train in Japan is designed after the streamlined beak of a kingfisher. Velcro was modeled after a bur. Medical needles were improved by looking at mosquitoes.
Now, Ford will develop self-adhesive materials based on geckos' feet.
A gecko can cling to smooth surfaces, and release itself easily again. This property, in cabin materials, could reduce the need for glue-like adhesives, and make parts easier to recycle at the end of the vehicle's life.
We hope you'll visit us at Hoblit Motors to learn more about Ford's efforts in environmental sustainability, and test drive a new vehicle.
